This guide explains how to change the network name (also called the Wi-Fi name or SSID) on your D-LINK DSL-5300. Updating the Wi-Fi name helps you recognize your network easily, avoid confusion with nearby networks, and keep your home/office setup organized—especially if you manage multiple routers or repeaters.
What “Change Name” Means
- Wi-Fi Name (SSID): The name that appears when your phone/laptop scans for wireless networks.
- Important: Changing the SSID will disconnect devices currently connected to Wi-Fi. You will need to reconnect using the new name (and password if you also change it).
Before You Start

- Stay connected: If possible, configure using a wired (Ethernet) connection so you don’t lose access when Wi-Fi restarts. If you must use Wi-Fi, be ready to reconnect after saving.
- Know your admin login: You’ll need the router’s admin username/password to access the settings.
- Plan your new name: Pick an SSID that is easy to identify but does not reveal personal information (avoid full names, phone numbers, or addresses).
Best Practices for a Good Wi-Fi Name (SSID)

- Keep it simple: Use letters/numbers, avoid unusual symbols if you want maximum device compatibility.
- Make it recognizable: Example: Home_DSL5300, OfficeWiFi_5G.
- Avoid personal info: Don’t include your apartment number, full name, or business details.
- Separate bands (if available): If you have 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, consider naming them clearly like MyWiFi and MyWiFi_5G to help you choose the best one per device.
Change D-LINK DSL-5300 Name

- Log in to your router admin panel.
Open a web browser and go to your router’s admin page (commonly 192.168.0.1, or check the label on the device). Sign in with your admin credentials.
Tip: If you don’t know how to access it, follow your “Open Admin Page” guide first. - Find Wi-Fi / Wireless settings.
In the router interface, look for a menu item called Wireless, WLAN, or Wi-Fi. Depending on firmware, it may be under Basic (simple configuration) or Advanced (detailed configuration). - Enter a new Wi-Fi name (SSID).
Locate the field labeled Wi-Fi Name, SSID, or Wireless Network Name. Type your new network name.
Example: DSL5300_Home
Note: If you see separate sections for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, you may need to change the SSID in both places. - Save/Apply your changes.
Click Save or Apply. The router may briefly restart the Wi-Fi signal. This is normal and usually takes 10–60 seconds. - Reconnect your devices to the new Wi-Fi name.
On each phone/laptop/TV/console:- Open Wi-Fi settings
- Select the new SSID
- Enter the Wi-Fi password (same as before unless you changed it)
- Well done! You successfully changed the name of your D-LINK DSL-5300 Wi-Fi network.
Quick Troubleshooting
- My Wi-Fi disappeared after saving: Wait 1 minute, then scan again. If you changed both band names, check both lists. Reboot the router once if needed.
- I can’t log back into the router after changing the SSID: If you were connected via Wi-Fi, reconnect to the new SSID, then reopen the admin page address.
- Devices won’t connect to the new SSID: Try “Forget network” on the device and reconnect. Also ensure you didn’t use unsupported symbols in the SSID.
- Some smart devices (IoT) can’t find the network: Many IoT devices only support 2.4 GHz. Make sure your 2.4 GHz SSID is enabled and visible.
