This long-form guide shows you how to set a static IP address for your Xbox One when using a D-LINK DSL-5300 router. A static IP helps keep your console’s network address from changing, which can improve online play stability and is especially useful if you plan to configure port forwarding.
Why Use a Static IP for Xbox One?
- More stable networking: Prevents your Xbox One IP from changing after a reboot.
- Better for port forwarding: Port rules work reliably only when the console’s IP stays the same.
- Easier troubleshooting: Makes it simpler to diagnose NAT, party chat, and matchmaking issues.
Before You Start

- Make sure your Xbox One is already connected to the network (wired is recommended for best stability).
- Have a target IP address ready (example: 192.168.0.50), and ensure it won’t conflict with another device.
- Common values you may need:
- Subnet mask: usually 255.255.255.0
- Gateway/Router IP: commonly 192.168.0.1 (depends on your router settings)
- Tip: If you don’t know your router’s IP or DHCP range, you can check it in the router control panel or on a connected PC.
How to Setup Static IP for Xbox One on D-LINK DSL-5300 (Xbox One Console Steps)

In this section you will manually set the IP address directly on the Xbox One. After that, you’ll also reserve the same IP in the router (recommended) to prevent conflicts and keep the assignment consistent.
- At first, launch your Xbox One console.
Wait until you are fully on the Home screen before continuing. - When you are on the Home screen, press the Xbox button on the controller to open the menu.

- Choose the Settings (gear) icon and select Settings from the list.

- Open the General section.

- Select Network settings, then go to Advanced settings.
- Choose IP settings and select Manual.
Manual mode lets you define a fixed IPv4 address instead of receiving one automatically (DHCP). - Enter the IPv4 address you want to assign to your Xbox One, then continue.
Example: If your router IP is 192.168.0.1, a typical Xbox IP could be 192.168.0.50.
Important: The IP should be in the same network as the router (usually 192.168.0.x) and not used by another device. - Enter the Subnet mask, then continue to the next section.
Common value: 255.255.255.0
If you’re unsure, use the same subnet mask used by your router’s LAN settings. - Finally, you may see the Gateway screen.
In many cases you can proceed as shown, but for best reliability you can enter your router’s IP address as the gateway (commonly 192.168.0.1).
The gateway is the device your Xbox uses to reach the internet—usually your router. - Perfect! You have successfully set a static IP address on your Xbox One.
Next, we strongly recommend reserving this same IP in the router to prevent conflicts.
Setting up Static IP (DHCP Reservation) for Xbox One on the D-LINK DSL-5300 Router (Recommended)

Even after setting a static IP on the Xbox One, it’s best practice to create a DHCP reservation (sometimes called a static lease) in your router. This links your Xbox One’s MAC address to the chosen IP address, which helps prevent IP conflicts and keeps the assignment consistent.
- Start by opening your router’s control panel in a web browser.
Usually you can access it by typing the router’s IP address (commonly 192.168.0.1) into the address bar. - Click on the More Functions section.
- Select Network Settings and open the LAN tab.
- Scroll down the page until you find the section for DHCP reservations / static assignments.
- Press the Add button.
- Enter the MAC address of your Xbox One console.
Tip: You can usually find the MAC address under Xbox Network settings (it may be labeled as “Wired MAC” or “Wireless MAC”). Make sure you use the correct one for your connection type. - Enter the IP address you want to assign to your Xbox One.
Important: The IP must match your LAN subnet and should not be used by any other device.
Note: Some router interfaces recommend choosing an IP within the DHCP range, while others work best outside the pool. If your router enforces a rule, follow what the interface allows. - Click OK to save your changes.
- Done! The static IP reservation was successfully set up.
Recommended Checks After Setup
- Restart the Xbox One once to ensure it applies the new network configuration cleanly.
- Go to Settings → General → Network settings and confirm the IP address displayed matches the one you set.
- Run a Test network connection and check your NAT type. If NAT is still Strict/Moderate, you may need port forwarding (using this static IP).
Troubleshooting (If Something Doesn’t Work)
- No internet after setting Manual: Re-check the IPv4 address, subnet mask, and gateway. The gateway should usually be your router IP (often 192.168.0.1).
- IP conflict detected: Another device may already be using the IP. Choose a different IP, then update both the Xbox settings and the router reservation.
- Can’t access router page: Confirm your PC is connected to the DSL-5300 and use the correct router IP address.
- Online gaming issues remain: After the static IP is set, configure port forwarding rules for Xbox Live and re-test NAT.
